STEPLEMIST - CONTEMPORARY GOSPEL
Since its establishment in 2007, Step Le’ Mist (SLM) has been growing from strength to strength. The company was started as an online sports marketing business but has since ended up a media company, focusing more on music and entertainment.
Amongst its key offerings are staging music concerts, licensing music to other key markets worldwide and serving as booking agent for several musicians. It also offers ID/Branding/Image Consulting and Management to various artists including online marketing. One of the biggest groups on the company’s books is a group called Intense. The group won the SA Crown Gospel Award for Best RnB/Rap group in 2010. Step Le Mist holds the booking rights and the licensing of the group’s music.
StepLeMist Concerts, a live events wing was established to concentrate on staging live events and also rendering services for those requiring live events services. The wing is also responsible for the Mega Gospel series of concerts, a collaboration of artists, featuring various leading SA musicians that includes:
· Intense (SA Crown Gospel Award Winners 2010, Best RnB/Rap Album)
· Banele (SA Crown Gospel Award Winner 2009, Best Newcomer)
· Bongi & Collin (South African Music Award Winner 2010, Best Urban Gospel Album)
· Karabo Mongatane (SA Crown Gospel Award Winner 2010, Best Contemporary Album)
· Mabongi Mabaso (Top 12 finalist in SAMRO 2012 overseas scholarship competition).
This series has proven to be major success, with the first one held on the 7th
May 2011, the second one on the 6th of August 2011, the third one on the 22nd October 2012 at Wits Theatre and the latest one was held to a large crowd at the State Theatre Drama (Pretoria) on the 23rd of June. It also has an online TV channel on YouTube called MegaGospelTV. This channel (www.youtube.com/megagospeltv) has already had well over 20000 hits to date. StepLeMist is now promoting these artists, availing them for bookings in other countries.
Through interactions at other conferences, the one question that StepLeMist always encountered was “where can one find South African music”. As an answer to this, StepLeMist is now working on a music portal that will list as many of the South African artists as possible. It will also have a build in music store for digital sales and which will be linked to the artists bios on the site. So international visitors will not only be able to learn about SA musicians but will also be able to immediately buy their music if they want to, and also be able to book them with ease. The portal, once completed will be found at www.samusicportal.co.za. A subset of this portal and which will concentrate purely on gospel music will be found at www.gospelcity.co.za. The company has ambitions to turn this portal into the largest music portal in Africa and amongst the top 10 in the world. After careful thought, this has been built into a 3 year plan, with phase one set for release in 2012 October.
Still on the arts, StepLeMist has also acquired the domain name www.egoliwood.co.za and will use this to market local film talent to the rest of the world. Planning around this is still ongoing but a short film on abortion has already been shot
